Who We Are.

Ingrained skill, flexibility and knowledge are the three elements which our team bring to your event. From the past sixteen years spent planning and creating great moments in the national life of the United Kingdom, Formidable Productions can call on the very best team members and suppliers with the major advantage that we have the staff and contacts which have worked on every Games since 1992, two Royal Jubilees, 6 UK music festivals and a host of one-off events.

We come from a broadcast and event background so we have the media skills and contacts to make your content as rich as your vision and budget allows. We can also help with sponsor client management to help you realise your vision.

Image 9Mike Gibbons has delivered some of the iconic British events of the past two decades culminating in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He is currently an Advisor to the International Olympic Committee, acting as Interim Chief Operating Officer for a content production and management company and creating events for major national & international moments in 2014 and 2015.

A specialist in major outdoor event production, Mike is advising on future 2018 and 2020 Olympic & Paralympic Games Live Sites and supported the Rio 2016 programme; has managed event teams at Manchester Commonwealth Games 2002, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games and the Olympic and Paralympic Games of London 2012. Each of these offered different challenges – in Manchester, the need was for stage and street entertainment across the city, at the stadium and in the Athletes Village; in Vancouver, Mike was Show Director for the main LiveCity Live Site providing live sports action on big screens plus four stage shows and bands a day. At London 2012, he staged the ‘Handover 2008′ concert outside Buckingham Palace, set up 22 big screen ‘Live Sites’ in every nation & region of the UK, helped the host cities of London and other venues to stage their own Live Sites in places such as Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square with the highlight the astonishingly challenging “Park Live” Olympic Park Live Site in the middle of the River Lea in the north of the Olympic Park.

Beyond the various Games, Mike has eleven years as Project Director and Chief Project Manager at BBC Live Events setting up and running pan-BBC music festivals; jointly organising major celebrations including The Queen’s Golden Jubilee concerts and events in Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park and across the UK; the Athens Torch Relay Concert 2004 in The Mall, London widely seen as the precursor to the successful bid for the 2012 Games; the Public Space Broadcasting Project; Manchester Passion and Liverpool Nativity for BBC Three; the D Day 60th Anniversary Commemoration Concert in Trafalgar Square and many more including some very special street theatre and big screen events in city centres.

What we offer you really does depend on what you need. In all the above, the key skills are event delivery, team management and leadership. We can create your hands-on event at whatever level you require. So if you need real partnership management to make the most of your team and event suppliers then we are ideally placed to do that. And if you want us to handle the nuts and bolts of event delivery then we have the team in place to do that to your specification.

After a radio career which started at the age of 12, and having worked at local radio stations in Bedfordshire, Manchester and the North West, Pete moved to Network Radio, mainly Five Live & Radio 1, before leaving the BBC in 2005.  Since leaving the BBC, Pete has produced many types of content in a wide range of genres; TV for BBC, ITV & Channel 4, Music videos, regular corporate work for the likes of Disney, Pepsi, Papa John’s, Soho House, Bebo & MySpace along with Freud Communications. Pete also managed a successful 48 date DJ tour of the country’s Universities, regularly produces and edits programming for the BBC Radio network and TalkSPORT.

Pete was series producer of KateModern, an internet drama which was the brainchild of three American producers, who had a great format and story world but no UK production contacts. Cut to two years later, masses of column inches, online articles and chatter on social networks,  with two BAFTA nominations plus a Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Innovation in the bag and an impressive 66 million views, the project was deemed a success.

Following KateModern, Pete moved back to the BBC to produce 40 episodes of Drama series The Cut. Pete took up the role of Series Producer, leading a 50 strong team of people, creating  a low budget, high aspiration piece of content which engaged with young viewers across the country.

Following The Cut, Pete linked up with his old mates at Bigballs films and after that did his first work on Hollyoaks and started development of his first feature film which is planned for release in 2015.

Pete and Nik Selman are now working together on our new content production company joint venture “Formidable“,  a leading creative video content consultancy and production company creating video content with a purpose, developed with a strategy of how and why audiences will engage with it.

Formidable tells stories in a compelling and engaging way on behalf of brands, public sector organisations and high-profile individuals, produces commissions for television and is currently working on its first feature film.
